WICK TABLE

December 2023

Oak, Cotton, Fabric Dye

40” x 20” x 17”
A coffee table exploring the interactions between water and wood. Even after the wood is no longer living, it still retains the ability to absorb water through its capillaries. When set in a pool of fabric dye, the table absorbs the liquid. Leaving a physical record of the passage of time on the table.

Constructed primarily out of white oak, used for its uniquely large capillary structure, this table features a drawer with an entirely wooden construction, no hardware was used. The drawer pull is created from a strip of tablet-woven band. The band my first piece of tablet weaving, and seemed appropriate to use for my first major woodworking project.
