Eric is a queer, interdisciplinary weaver and designer. They aim to explore the meanings and implications embedded in woven cloth through its production. Their work is about the making, the connections between weaver and product, loom as interface, cloth as body, warmth, and the self. Eric creates objects meant to be used, loved, destroyed, and mended.

ERIC COUTURE

RVA/BTV


Eric is a queer, inderdisciplinary designer and fiber artist. They are particularly interested in the memory of materials and how textiles can be utilized as record keeping devices. With a deep focus on the making process, Eric creates objects meant to be used, loved, destroyed, and mended.

Hailing from the far northwest corner of Vermont, Eric likes cows, the radio, snow, loud music, mail, and the theoretical. In their free time they knit a lot of socks, hang out with their dog,
and think about sequences of numbers.

In 2024, Eric graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts with a BFA in Graphic Design, with a minor in Craft/Material Studies during which they specialized in textiles and wood. They are currently an MFA candidate in Textles/Fibers at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.

They have taught classes in the command-line interface, quilting, screenprinting, and visible mending at VCUArts (Richmond, VA), Studio Two Three (Richmond, VA) and Berea College Student Craft (Berea, KY) where they were also the Student Craft Fellow in the Weaving Studio.
