A SCARF FOR ME

October 2022

Naturally-dyed, hand-woven wool

14” x 7’
Despite it making up a large portion of my practice at this point, I am still largely unsure of my place in the crafts and fiber worlds at this point in my work. Being a masculine presenting person, a nonbinary person, a fat person, it often does not feel like there is much of a place for me in these worlds. Most of the time, people are at least friendly and kind towards me, but regardless of that, nothing is made for me. As such, a lot of my fibers work has gravitated towards making things especially for me. These use objects are made to be used, loved, destroyed, mended, etc.

This scarf was created out of naturally dyed wool that I dyed myself. The yellow with osage orange and the blue with indigo. I also created the draft for the scarf myself. The structure is strictly plainweave, with the variation and patterning coming purely from the patterns of colors in warp and weft.
